How do I add a user account? (to Windows XP)
Adding a user account requires that you are logged into an account that is an administrator. If you cannot access an account with Administrator priveledges, please let us know and we will assist further.
- Go into your Control Panel (Start > Control Panel)
- Go into User Accounts (you may have to select this name twice in two different places)
- Click on "Create a new account" and give the account the desired name.
- Select the user type. Unless you want this user to be able to change anything on the computer, we highly suggest making these accounts "Limited" accounts, rather than "Computer administrator" accounts.
- Select the account from the list at the bottom of the screen.
- If you wish to setup a password or do anything else relating to this account, do so here.
How do I change my password? (in Netware or Windows XP)
Changing your password to each is different, but relatively simple.
In Windows XP...
- Go into your Control Panel (Start > Control Panel)
- Go into User Accounts (you may have to select this name twice in two different places)
- Select the account you wish to change the password for. Note that if you are changing the password for an account other than your own, you must be logged in as an Administrator.
- Go to "Change the password" and change the password to the desired new password.
In Novell Netware... (also can change your own Windows XP password)
- Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE in a computer with Novell Netware installed on.
- Select "Change password"
- Highlight all areas that you want your password changed. LINDEN will change your Netware password, while the computer icon(s) will change your Windows XP password.
- Enter in your old password, as well as your desired new password. Pressing OK will enact the changes.
How long are email messages kept on servers?
As a policy, we only provide the means to send and receive email messages, and do not guarantee storage capacity of messages. In addition, we do not guarantee long-term storage of messages sent onto our servers. We only backup messages in the same way that we backup our entire server system and do not provide specialized support for emergency email retrieval.
We do occasionally do removals of emails from our system, and we do two forms of removal...
- 1. Removal of all emails stored on our servers beyond a certain date. This is done occasionally, but usually is used only to clear messages that are many months old, generally beyond a year.
- 2. Removal of all emails stored under a single user account. This is done on a regular basis (usually during the summer) to all accounts that are no longer active in departments we support.
We will always email accounts affected by mass email deletions prior to beginning; we can assist with moving emails off of GroupWise and onto local storage.
How do I synchronize my XP and Netware passwords to avoid both login screens?
If both your Windows XP and Netware login passwords are the same, and you consistently login under the same username, you can bypass the second login screen when you login to Netware.
- In the Netware Login screen, select "Advanced" and go to the Windows tab.
- Select the name in the window and change it to your Windows login ID. (if it is not already)
- Log in to the Netware system. When you reach the second screen, login as normal, but check the checkbox that is on the page. If you do this, in the future, this second login should not show.
